Next Steps for Accepted Undergraduate Students

Attend Orientation and Get Advisement

Freshmen and Transfer Students with Less than 42 Hours
You’ll receive your packet of information about our orientation program, Incept . Choose a date to attend and send back the response card or sign up online. During Incept you will meet with academic advisors to plan your schedule and register for classes, socialize with current and new students, and learn your way around campus. If you are unable to attend orientation, contact the Student Advisement Center at (404) 413-2300 to sign up for advisement sessions offered for new students.
Transfer Students with 42+ Hours
After you are accepted, a 20-minute online pre-orientation is required before you can register for classes. Contact the Andrew Young School Office of Academic Assistance at (404) 413-0021 for advisement and registration information. You are also encouraged to attend Incept orientation (special days are scheduled for Transfer students) which includes an advisement session and early registration.
International Students
Orientation for international students is provided by International Student and Scholar Services, and includes a meeting with your advisor and registration.

Get Connected
A student email account is created for each accepted student. Access your network account to begin using your email.  GoSOLAR is your online connection to Georgia State. Log in here to register for classes, view academic records, personal information, financial aid information, and to pay tuition and fees.

Get Your PantherCardThe PantherCard is the official Georgia State University identification card.  It is used for library privileges, after hours access and can also be used as a debit card for PantherMeals and PantherCash.  Click on the PantherCard link for more information on how to receive your PantherCard.

Emergency Contact
Emergency contact information is required for all students. You can easily provide this information via your GoSOLAR account. To ensure compliance a registration hold is placed on your student record until that information is provided, so please log on today.

Make the Proper Immunization Arrangements
The immunization form must be turned in prior to the first day of classes. You may receive the vaccines from your local health department, private physician or Georgia State University Health Services. There is a fee at all locations for the vaccines. If you are a transfer student, immunization records may be provided from your previous school. For more information, visit the University Health Services web site.

Health Insurance
Students attending Georgia State on an “F” or “J” visa are required to purchase health insurance. A voluntary health insurance plan is also available for undergraduate students enrolled in at least 6 credit hours.

Submit Final Transcript
Freshmen : Upon graduation, have your high school send a final transcript to Georgia State Undergraduate Admissions so that we can complete your admissions file.

Transfer Students: After you have received grades for your final semester, have your previous school send a final transcript to Georgia State Undergraduate Admissions so that we can complete our evaluation of your transfer credit.

Finalize Financial Aid
Fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid online. If you have already applied for financial aid, you can check your status with GoSOLAR. If you still have questions, please contact the Office of Student Financial Aid at (404) 413-2400 or visit in person at 102 Sparks Hall.

Register for Classes
Most new students will register for classes during Incept or International orientation. However, GoSOLAR allows you to register from home or anywhere you have access to the Internet. It is best to register at the earliest time allowed in order to get your preferred schedule.

Pay Tuition and Fees
When calculating the annual cost of a college degree, you should consider a number of factors including tuition, books/supplies, parking, housing, and meal plans. You may review estimates of tuition and current fees here.

Find Housing Options
If you are interested in living on campus, you should apply for housing via GoSOLAR after being accepted. Georgia State also offers an off-campus housing site to start your housing search.

Find Parking and Transportation
Students have three transportation options: discounted MARTA TransCards, shuttle service, and on-campus parking. All parking requires that a vehicle be pre-registered and display a valid parking permit. Vehicle registration can only be done online through GoSOLAR. Complete and current information can be found online or by calling the Auxiliary Services Office at (404) 413-9500.

Get to Know Atlanta
Atlanta is a great place to live.  Metro Atlanta offers a number of events to attend, places to see and activities in which to participate.  See what Atlanta has to offer with the Ambassador Force of Downtown Atlanta and the Atlanta Tourism Bureau.

Watch for Special Events!
Stay in touch with the Office of Academic Assistance for details about special events arranged by your department and school. For example, Public Policy majors are invited to attend the Department of Public Administration and Urban Studies' annual PAUS Open House at the beginning of each Fall Semester.  The departments of Economics and Modern and Classical Languages host an annual IEML Open House for International Economics and Modern Languages majors each September. And the Andrew Young School invites all undergraduate majors to attend Pizza and Policy luncheons to meet the faculty and learn more about policy.  Check the Andrew Young School calendar for other special events. We look forward to meeting you!
