Admissions Requirements to AYSPS Graduate Programs


Application Deadline
The application deadlines for our graduate programs are as follows:

 

Masters & Graduate Certificates

Fall Semester – April 1*

Spring Semester – October 1

Doctoral Admissions - Ph.D. in Economics

Fall Semester – February 15**

Doctoral Admissions – Ph.D. in Public Policy

Fall Semester – February 1

*Note: February 15 is the Fall masters priority deadline if you are applying for a Graduate Research Assistantship (GRA). There is no priority deadline for Spring admission or the doctoral programs.

**Note: Please note that this deadline is earlier than in previous years and plan accordingly.

The application, supporting documents, and test scores must arrive by the designated date in order to ensure admission consideration.

Application Fee
A nonrefundable application fee of $50 is required for each application submitted.  Applicants can pay by credit card online.

Consideration is given only to complete applications received by the deadline.

Application Requirements
A completed application includes (Details about each component):

  • A submitted online application
  • Payment of the $50 application fee
  • Two copies of official academic transcripts, in sealed envelopes, from each post secondary institution attended regardless of where your final degree(s) were received.
  • Written Statements:  Master’s and graduate certificate students are required to submit a Professional goals statement.  Doctoral candidates are required to submit a Biographical Statement and a Statement of Interest.  
  • Three letters of recommendation. (Letters of recommendation are not required for the Certificate programs.)
  • Official scores on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE)
  • International applicants may also be required to submit official scores on the TOEFL and Georgia State University Financial Statement form.
  • Application for Graduate Research Assistantship Form (OPTIONAL)

Applicants to the joint Master of Public Administration/Juris Doctor degree program must be separately admitted to both the J.D. and M.P.A. programs and must request admission to the joint program. Please note that the MPA/JD program only admits students for the Fall to coincide with regular JD enrollment.  If you have completed your application to the College of Law at the time you apply to the M.P.A. program, you will need to submit the following:

1.       A submitted online application
2.      
Payment of the $50 application fee
3.       Official scores on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE).  If admitted to the JD program LSAT scores may substitute for this requirement upon request
4.       Professional goals statement
5.       International applicants may also be required to submit Official scores on the TOEFL Georgia State University Financial Statement form

Transient Admission:  Students enrolled in a graduate degree program at another accredited institution may apply to take a graduate course that can be transferred to their "home" institution. Transient admission is for one semester and you need to submit only the following:

1.       A submitted online application
2.      
Payment of the $50 application fee
3.       Certification of Good Standing from "home" institution, placed in an envelope, sealed with the official's signature across the sealed portion of the envelope and sent to you.

Nondegree AdmissionThe master's-level nondegree classification is provided in recognition of the fact that education is a lifelong process and that people may wish to enroll in one or more graduate courses at various times for personal or professional reasons without completing a degree program. Nondegree students must follow the same admissions procedures and submit the same application materials as degree seeking students.  Application deadlines must also be adhered to.  Note: International students will not be admitted in nondegree status.

Check Your Application Status
Once you have submitted your on-line application to AYSPS, applicants will receive an email from the Office of Academic Assistance which will include your new Panther number.  You will use this number to log on and view your status. Please allow two weeks processing time for receipt of your Panther number.
