Public Economics Workshop
The Fiscal Research Center and International Studies Program are collaborating to establish a Public Economics Workshop.
The Workshop will be held on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays from 12:00 Noon to 1:00. The first meeting of the Workshop will be held on Tuesday, December 2 in room 507. Lunch will be provided at this session and the one on Dec 16th. Thereafter, it will by BYOL.
The following is a list of what we hope will go on at the Workshop:
- Develop ideas for research
- Assist work in progress, including getting comments on research
- Discuss recent publications
- Discuss policy issues, including issues the centers are working on
- Discuss funding opportunities
- Discuss graduate student dissertation ideas, placements, etc.
- Occasionally—work of the public finance committee

The topics for discussion include anything in Public Economics, broadly defined. Any topic that might be found in the Handbook of Public Economics or published in a public finance or social choice journal would be considered. The Workshop will consider topics at the international, national, state, and local level, and both empirical and theoretical work.
At the start of each workshop, the floor would be open to anyone who wanted to raise a topic. However, in case the open discussion didn’t take up the entire hour someone will have be assigned the responsibility for presenting something (a published article, work in progress, or what ever) or leading a discussion on something. Presentations will be informal, no power point presentations. The workshop will not replace or duplicate the Friday seminars, or compete with other workshops. No required preparation other then for the person assigned to organize the workshop. Collegial participation will be the standard expectation.
The Workshop is open to anyone from AYS or elsewhere and to faculty, students, and research associates. If you would like to be included on the email notification list, please reply to Margo Doers at MDoers@gsu.edu.
