Carolyn Bourdeaux’s current research interests are in the areas of governance, urban policy, and public finance, though her background in academia and work in the public sector spans a wide range of areas that include transportation and land use planning, economic development, environmental policy, education, and administrative reform. Her recent research has focused on the implications of using public authorities to finance and develop infrastructure. Previous publications include a review of efforts to implement performance based management at the local level in Public Administration Review and an evaluation of the use of alternative dispute resolution at the Environmental Protection Agency in Negotiation Journal.
Dr. Bourdeaux also brings extensive practitioner experience at the local, regional, and federal levels of government. Her background at the local level includes work for local and regional transportation and economic development agencies. Her experience at the federal level includes working in Washington, D.C., as a legislative aide to Senator Ron Wyden of Oregon and prior to this, Representative Robert Menendez of New Jersey.
