Prior to joining Georgia State University, Doyle served as an Assistant Vice President and Economist at SunTrust Banks’ corporate headquarters and also taught at Georgia Institute of Technology. His primary research interest is in the area of pensions, particularly state and local public pension plans. Doyle has conducted research on their investment practices, funding levels, performance, and other related issues.
He is also interested in corporate pensions, 401(k) plans, banking and monetary policy, and economic forecasting. Doyle previously contributed to corporate economic forecasts published in Reuters, Bloomberg, the Wall Street Journal, USA Today, BusinessWeek, and Blue Chip.
In the first quarter of 2007 - Doyle predicted the current recession (which began later that year) and the big problems with subprime. In October 2008, he was an expert panel member at Georgia State University’s “Crisis in the Economy” (a town hall meeting) and was interviewed by CNN before the event. He has also been interviewed in newspapers and on live radio programs. He was awarded a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition in April 2009 in “recognition of outstanding and invaluable service to the community” by United States Congressman John L. Lewis Office.
Doyle also has extensive teaching experience. He has taught more than 60 economics courses in virtually every area of economics and has developed a course on Monetary and Fiscal Policy.
