Rashad's current research is focused on the increase in caloric intake and the decline in levels of physical activity in the United States and in finding causes and solutions for these potential problems. She is also interested in other demand-driven health economics problems such as risky adolescent behavior and drug abuse. Her research has been funded by the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases. Rashad is a faculty affiliate of the Georgia Health Policy Center, the Partnership for Urban Health Research, and the W.J. Usery Workplace Research Group. Rashad has written for the Dallas Morning News and has been cited in articles in the New York Times, Obesity Policy Report, Chronicle of Higher Education, Britain's Guardian Magazine, and Canada's National Post. Her articles have appeared in the Journal of Health Economics, Journal of Law and Economics, Southern Economic Journal, Economics and Human Biology, Eastern Economic Journal, American Journal of Health Promotion, Advances in Health Economics and Health Services Research, Public Policy Research, the Public Interest, and Gender Issues.
