ECON 8300: Urban EconomicsIs there any hope for the cities of America? Cities are currently facing severe challenges, including sprawl, air and water pollution, traffic congestion, and growing poverty. In this course these urban problems as well as others will be analyzed from an economic perspective. This will lay the foundation for a lively discussion of policy alternatives, such as, congestion tolls, workfare, urban growth boundaries, and urban enterprise zones. Emphasis is placed on the spatial characteristics of the urban economy as well as on market failures arising from the presence of externalities. (3 credit hours) Prerequisite: Econ 8080 or Econ 3910. SyllabiSee the AYSPS Course Syllabi List. Please remember that individual faculty vary their course plans over time. A previous syllabus is no guarantee of what an upcoming course will be like.
