ECON 8600: Economics of Development This course examines the microeconomic foundations of issues of development in poor countries. The course will focus on the study of household behavior and the analysis of how institutions in developing countries work. Topics include the neoclassical unitary household model, intra-household bargaining and allocation, the effect of incomplete and imperfect markets on labor and land market arrangements, savings and credit institutions in the face of imperfect information, and risk sharing and its effects on decisions, and social interactions in decision-making.
