ECON 9320: Environmental and Resource Economics IIWith the growing stresses on our environmental systems, damages to these systems are occurring at ever increasing rates (e.g. hazardous waste spills, oil spills, and other toxic releases). Traditional tools of cost/benefit assessment used by economists do not readily apply to environmental damages, mainly due to the non-market nature of environmental goods. In this course, students will gain a working knowledge of the current methods used to assign monetary values to the loss of environmental amenities that results from damages, as well as the current controversies surrounding these methods. This concluding section of environmental and resource economics will focus the skills developed in environmental and resource economics I toward using theoretical models and analytical techniques associated with contemporary environmental and natural resource management problems. (3 credit hours) Prerequisites: Econ 8100 and Econ 8120. SyllabiSee the AYSPS Course Syllabi List. Please remember that individual faculty vary their course plans over time. A previous syllabus is no guarantee of what an upcoming course will be like.
