PAUS 8121: Applied Research Methods and Statistics I

This course offers an introduction to the use of research methods and statistical analysis in the study of public management and public affairs. The two main objectives of the course are:

  1. to introduce students to the scientific method and basic research techniques, and

  2. to teach students the basic principles of applied statistical analysis.

Topics include the scientific method in applied research, elementary research design, measurement, qualitative research, computer-assisted data analysis, and beginning statistics including descriptive statistics, crosstabulation, introductory inferential statistics, and graphical presentations. (3 credit hours)
