PAUS 8311: Planning Theory and AnalysisStudents in this three-credit course will use Microsoft Excel spreadsheet software to apply basic planning methods to real planning and economic development issues and data sets. Class meetings will include both lectures and opportunities for students to work together and with the instructor on applied case problems in demography, land use, regional economic development and transportation. Although it is desirable for students taking this class to have completed PAUS 8021 (Urban Planning and Demography) and to be generally familiar with Excel 7.0, extra effort can substitute for this prerequisite. There is no better way to become proficient with spreadsheets and basic quantitative planning methods than learning by doing, with individual help available from the instructor and opportunities to work together with fellow students. Skills taught in this class are useful in most entry-level professional positions in planning and economic development as well as in many related fields, and these skills are essential for advancement. (3 credit hours) Prerequisite: PAUS 8021. SyllabiSee the AYSPS Course Syllabi List. Please remember that individual faculty vary their course plans over time.
