PAUS 8501: Public Sector Financial ManagementThe purpose of this course is to introduce students to basic principles of public sector financial management and accounting. The course begins with a review of public budgeting practices and processes in the United States. Then, students will be exposed to governmental accounting standards and procedures, revenue sources and tax administration, cash management and purchasing, capital budgeting, debt administration, risk management, and auditing. Revenue forecasting and cost analysis techniques will be addressed as well. Students must complete two applied projects that assess the financial condition of a local government. Another component of the final grade evaluates each student's presentation of a chosen topic in class and leadership of the class discussion for that session.
