The faculty and research associates continued their international
work in 2000 at an even more vigorous pace than in previous years. Working
as advisors to countries, as representatives of international agencies
and lecturers abroad, the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies was on
the ground in twenty-six countries during the year.

Gronski, from the University of Hohenheim, Stuttgart, Germany.
Her research interests focused on analyzing the role of the Johannesburg
Stock Exchange in fostering economic growth in South Africa.
The Andrew Young School of Policy Studies hosted Visiting Scholar, Avinash
Samboo, from the University of Mauritius. His research interests
focused on the social security system.
The Andrew Young School of Policy Studies hosted Visiting Scholar, Min
Zhao, from the Minstry of Public Security, part of the State
Council of the People's Republic of China. Her research interests focused
on Science and Technology Policy.
Dean Roy Bahl, Center Directors and Department Chairs met with Dean
Sibusisio Vil-Nkomo, Professor Chabani Manganyi (Advisor to
the President - University of Pretoria), and Dr. Johan Hendrikz
(Marketing Director from the University of Pretoria) to discuss collaborative
research and teaching programs. Included was a demonstration of the Experimental
Economics Lab. The South African visitors then traveled with Dean Bahl,
Ambassador John Hicks and Ambassador Andrew Young to New York City to
meet with the Carnegie Corporation, The Ford Foundation, and The Rockefeller
Foundation, October 30, 2000.

met with Professor Andrew Downs, University Director, and Ms.
Gale Hall, Assistant Registrar, of Sir Arthur Lewis Institute of Social
and Economic Change, University of West Indies Mona Campus - Jamaica Campus.
Included was a demonstration of the Experimental Economics Lab. The purpose
of the meetings was to explore possibilities for research collaboration

Dhlakama, leader of the political opposition group, Renamo Party in
Mozambique, who was visiting the Georgia State University Political Science
Department. Professor Carrie Manning of the Political Science Department

a South African Member of Parliament and Chairperson of the Portfolio
Committee of Local and Provincial Government in the National Assembly.

Jr. was invited to give a presentation on the airport system in Brazil
to students in the airport planning and management course.

signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the Andrew Young School
of Policy Studies and the Governor of Anambra State, Nigeria, Dr. C. C.
Mbadinuju, in which the Andrew Young School agreed to help in the design
of curriculum of a new university in Anambra State, and to institute faculty

Anambra State to carry out major capital infrastructure projects in light
of the Awka Capital Territory Master Plan, October 2000.
and James Alm met with senior officials of the Ministry
of Local Government and Rural Development in Accra, Ghana. During one
day of meetings, they discussed options for supporting the decentralization
program in Ghana, and established a cooperative relationship with the
Institute of Local Government Studies, October 2000.

hosted a visit on February 21, 2000, by Mr. Devinder Nath, Under-Secretary,
