James Alm
chaired the Department of Economics health economist search committee;

Jay Bae

Roy Bahl
served on the GSU Research Foundation Board of Directors. He co-chaired

Jameson Boex

Arthur Brooks
is coordinating the Nonprofit Executive Research Group for AYSPS, with
Mike Mescon; served on the Steering Committee for the Department of Public
Administration and Urban Studies; and served on the Nonprofit Advisory
Committee for GSU.
Rick Charles
completed development of an Undergraduate Certificate in Airline Management,
which is now offered by the University, and an aviation career track in
the MPA program, which will be included in the next edition of the graduate
catalog. He represented GSU in the annual Delta Air Lines Benefits Fair,
September 2000.
Kelly Edmiston
Kelly Edmiston served on the Admissions and Coordination Committee for
the joint Ph.D. Public Policy Program, the Graduate Committee for the
Department of Economics, the Economics Internal Evaluation Committee,
the Regional (1999-2000) and Urban (2000-2001) recruiting committees,
the Principles of Economics textbook search committee, the Public Economics
and Urban/Regional educational policy committees, and as the Department
of Economics captain for the 2000 State Charitable Contribution Program.
Jennifer Edwards
served on the committee to develop the Health Policy Track of the joint
Ph.D. program in public policy, 2000; (with Karen Minyard) developed and
piloted a new course, "Applying Research to Policymaking: Examples from
Health Care Policy," Fall 2000; and served on the Economics search committee,
Winter 2000.
Paul G. Farnham
served on the University Advisory Committee for the Freshmen Learning
Communities and on several subcommittees. He reviewed proposals for the
learning communities and helped develop policies for the program. He chaired
the AYSPS Academic Program Committee, which reviews all issues pertaining
to AYSPS academic programs; coordinated the AYSPS response for the University
Freshmen Learning Communities Program; and served on the committee for
developing the health policy concentration in the Joint Ph.D. in Public
Policy. He served as departmental core course coordinator for MBA 8403,
"Economics for Managers," in the MBA program of the Robinson College of
Business; served as a Teaching Associate from the Economics Department
for the Georgia State University Center for Teaching and Learning; served
on the departmental health economics recruiting committee for the 1999
- 2000 academic year; and served as a member of the Ph.D. dissertation
committee for Susan Snyder and chair of the committee for Mary O. (Femi)

Atef Ghobrial
served on the AYSPS Promotion and Tenure Committee; served on the PAUS
Promotion and Tenure and Post-Tenure Review Committees; and served as
coordinator of the Transportation Studies Program. He served on doctoral
thesis Committees in the Department of Economics; accompanied four graduate
students to the attend the Transportation Research Board Meeting in Washington
D.C., January 2000; accompanied fourteen students on a field trip to Jacksonville
in May 2000 in which students visited the Jacksonville Skyway Transit
and the Port of Jacksonville and presentations were made by the Director
of Marketing at CSX Railroads and a planner at ICF Kaiser Engineers, Inc.;
and accompanied six students to attend the International Intermodal Expo.

Shiferaw Gurmu
organized and coordinated the Department of Economics' Applied Econometrics

Carol D. Hansen
represented AYSPS and PAUS on the university committee for West Africa
and the Cote d'Ivoire; revised the HRD masters booklet for new and prospective
students; developed two undergraduate HR course proposals; and chaired
six Ph.D. committees. She chaired the successful prospectus defense for
Howard Bailey, and chaired the successful comprehensive doctoral exams

Bill Kahnweiler
served as Coordinator of Human Resources Programming in the PAUS Department.
In this capacity he provided leadership and oversight of the Ph.D. program
in Human Resource Development, the M.S. program in Human Resource Development,
the Human Resource Specialization in the B.S. Urban Policy Studies program,
and the forthcoming B.S. in Human Resource Policy and Development program;
designed 2 new courses (PAUS 3211, The Career Development Process, and
GSU 1010, Orientation to GSU); assisted in the development of the new
major in Human Resource Policy and Development; and served on GSU's University
Career Services Committee. He chaired the dissertation committees for

Susan Laury
served as manager of the Experimental Economics Lab and member of the
Summer Course Release Procedures Revision Committee; managed and supervised
the Iowa Electronic Market Lab; served as captain for the State Charitable
Contributions Program; and served as member of the college Web Oversight
Committee. She co-organized (with Laura Taylor) the Environmental and
Experimental Economics Seminar Series; conducted in-class experiment for
Laura Taylor in April, and assisted her in preparations in August; organized
an AYSPS lunch to discuss NSF funding opportunities in August;and helped
Peter Grigelis with an in-class experiment in August. She contributed
a summary of the internship project for the AYSPS proposal for the National

Gregory B. Lewis
directed the Georgia Institute of Technology-Georgia State University
joint Ph.D. program in public policy and serves on its Admissions and
Coordinating Committee. In the Department of Public Administration and
Urban Studies, he served on the faculty steering committee, the merit-increase
committee, and the promotion and tenure committee. He served as a member
of the University Senate, the Graduate Council, APACE, the Faculty Affairs
Committee, the Faculty Benefits Subcommittee, the Faculty-Graduate Student
Mentoring Subcommittee, and the E-Course Subcommittee.

Bruce A. Seaman

Laura Taylor
served as Chair of the Undergraduate Programs Committee, was a member
of the Department of Economics Program Evaluation Committee, a member
of the Faculty Affairs Committee, a member of the environmental economics
educational policy committee, and a member of the Search Committee for
Chair of the Department of Economics. She was the faculty advisor for
all students earning a B.A. or a B.S., the faculty advisor to the Undergraduate
Economics Club, and faculty advisor to Omicron Delta Epsilon, the national
economics honor society. She served the university as a member of the
University Senate, Academic Programs and Continuing Education subcommittee,
