James Alm was named Chair of the Department of Economics
in April 2000.
Richard Byrd visited The Atlanta Project as public health advisor
from May through November, 2000. His home institution is the Health Resources
Services Administration, Public Health Service, U.S. Department of Health
and Human Services.
Richard Charles was named Visiting Assistant Professor of Public
Administration and Urban Studies.
Vennie Davidson left The Atlanta Project as Office Manager in
July, however, she continued to work on the project through part-time
contract work.
Jennifer Edwards was named Adjunct Assistant Professor in Public
Administration and Urban Studies.
Sam Engle resigned as Associate Director of Research Atlanta.
Alan Essig joined the Fiscal Research Program as Research Associate
II in January.
Michael Foster resigned from his joint appointment as Associate
Professor of the Department of Public Administration and Urban Studies
and the School of Nursing, and is now Associate Professor in the Department
of Health Policy and Administration at Penn State.
Catherine Freeman joined the Fiscal Research Program as Research
Associate II in June.
Rachel Gonter left the Health Policy Center as Research
Associate II.
Amy Helling was tenured and promoted to Associate Professor of
Public Administration and Urban Studies.
Keith Ihlanfeldt resigned as Professor of Economics in September
2000, and is now Professor of Economics at Florida State University.
Osman Kabia joined The Atlanta Project in September as an AmeriCorps
VISTA.
Deborah McCarty joined Research Atlanta as Executive Director
on August 21, 2000. She is the former President of the Columbia Association
of Columbia, Md., the nation's largest private property owners association,
which has been recognized in city planning circles internationally. She
was formerly an Atlanta City Council member for 16 years, and Commissioner
of the Atlanta Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs from
1993 to 1998.
Julia Melkers was promoted to Associate Professor of Public Administration
and Urban Studies.
Jodi Merriday joined The Atlanta Project in February as Assistant
Director.
Michael H. Mescon joined the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies
in June as visiting holder of the Bernard B. and Eugenia A. Ramsey Chair
of Private Enterprise.
Shannon Mudd resigned as of Summer 2000. He is now Assistant Professor
of Economics at Thunderbird, The American Graduate School of International
Management.
Sharon Owens joined The Atlanta Project as an AmeriCorps VISTA
in February of 2000, and later, as AmeriCorps VISTA Leader.
Jeff Pruett joined the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies as
Manager of Systems Support, moving from the central university's computer
help center.
Donald Ratajczak retired as Professor of Economics in Summer 2000,
and was named Regents Professor Emeritus.
Betsy Robertson resigned as Director of Public Relations, to work
in the central university public relations office.
Glennwood Ross, Assistant Professor of Economics at Morehouse
College, was named as Adjunct Assistant Professor of Economics at Georgia
State University in the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies.
Al Rosser resigned as Manager of Systems Support, and now works
as PC Systems Specialist Lead for GSU.
Francis W. Rushing retired as Professor of Economics, was named
Professor Emeritus, and continues to work for the Department of Economics.
Samuel Skogstad retired as Professor and Chair of Economics in
Summer 2000, and was named Professor Emeritus.
Lauren Waits joined the Health Policy Center as Research Associate
II.
Sally Wallace was appointed the Associate Director of the Fiscal
Research Program.
Beth Weiss resigned as Program Development Officer for Service
Learning of the Office of Community Outreach and Partnerships.
Tom Weyandt resigned as executive director of Research Atlanta
Inc. on March 3, 2000, to become director of comprehensive planning for
the Atlanta Regional Commission.
