The Andrew Young School works in collaboration with other Universities
in the State of Georgia. These joint efforts span teaching, research and
outreach.
Atlanta Outreach Consortium
is an inter-university collective working to bridge community outreach
and service-learning programs at Georgia State University, Emory University, Georgia Institute of Technology and Clark Atlanta University.
The Department of Economics
and Morehouse College have an ongoing joint program of Economic
Studies Abroad in South Africa, including South Africa's Evolving Political
Economy. It is designed to give students a broad understanding of the
workings of the South African economy, its infrastructure, environment
and governance. The 2005 trip took place during the Maymester course.
Georgia State University
and the Georgia Institute of Technology offer a joint Ph.D.
in Public Policy, in the School of Public Policy and the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies. The doctoral curriculum utilizes the strengths and faculty
expertise of the two institutions.
The Neighborhood Collaborative
helped implement the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance and Earned Income
Tax Credit project. The Neighborhood Collaborative took
this project to the Atlanta Outreach Consortium (Clark-Atlanta
University, Emory University, Georgia Institute of Technology and
Georgia State University) and student volunteers from the four universities
assisted with tax return preparation for low income Atlanta families.
James Alm
met with prospective graduate students at Berry College in Rome, Ga., November 2005.
Carolyn Bourdeaux
served as the Georgia State representative on the comprehensive exam committee for the Economic Development concentration in the joint Georgia Institute of Technology public policy Ph.D. program. Tasks included assisting with development of the economic development comprehensive exams in the fall and spring and grading them.
worked with the Carl Vinson Institute at University of Georgia faculty in the development of the training program for the Georgia legislative budget offices.
Robert J. Eger III
authored the "Feasibility Study on Comprehensive Contract Maintenance in GDOT" with Georgia Institute of Technology researchers.
has several grants in progress with the Georgia Tech Research Institute and with Georgia Institute of Technology schools of Public Policy and Civil & Environmental Engineering.
Paul J. Ferraro
served as Member of Liliana Letteri’s Ph.D. dissertation committee in the Department of Biology at Georgia Institute of Technology, including designing and grading field examinations in Biology.
served as Principal Investigator of a grant that provided financial support to researchers at Georgia State, Georgia Southern University, Albany State University and Emory University.
supervised Emory University undergraduate student Samuel Cunningham in an independent research project in environmental economics and policy.
served as a member of the joint Emory University-Georgia State organizing committee for the 2006 Annual Meeting of the Economic Science Association, to be held in Atlanta.
Douglas J. Krupka
wrote the paper “Neighborhood Dynamics and Price Effects of Superfund Site Clean-up,” with Douglas S. Noonan of Georgia Institute of Technology.
organized the conference session “Neighborhood Dynamics” at the Western Economics Association International Meetings with Douglas S. Noonan and Marco Castillo, both of Georgia Institute of Technology.
Dora Ward Kyabu
presented guest lectures on health policy and participatory monitoring and evaluation to Emory University’s School of Nursing MSN program.
Glenn M. Landers
collaborated with John O’Looney of the University of Georgia and Louis Kudon of the Georgia Division of Public Health on “Avoidable Hospitalizations: An Analysis for Potential Strategic Action and Change,” working paper, Georgia Health Policy Center, February 2005.
Gregory B. Lewis
directs the Georgia Institute of Technology-Georgia State University joint Ph.D. program in public policy.
Harvey K. Newman
served as advisor to students in the Dual Degree Program, MS/MDiv, with Columbia Theological Seminary and the Interdenominational Theological Center.
taught a Joint Enrollment Course, PAUS 8233, “Power, Faith, and Civic Leadership,” with AYSPS, Columbia Theological Seminary and the Interdenominational Theological Center; taught the Columbia Theological Seminary courses I-241, “Alternative Context for Ministry: Atlanta,” in the Master of Divinity Degree Program, and I-615, “The Pastor as a Public Leader,” in the Doctor of Divinity Program.

Ragan Petrie
began organizing the International Conference of the Economic Science Association to be held in Atlanta on the Georgia State University campus in June 2006, with Charles Noussair (Emory University), Monica Capra (Emory University), Paul Ferraro, and Susan Laury.
David W. Pitts
co-authored three manuscripts with Elizabeth M. Jarry, a doctoral student in the Department of Public Administration and Policy at the University of Georgia.
co-authored a manuscript with J. Edward Kellough, a faculty member in the Department of Public Administration and Policy at the University of Georgia.
co-authored a manuscript with Vicky M. Wilkins, a faculty member in the Department of Public Administration and Policy at the University of Georgia.
Bruce A. Seaman
assisted with the joint graduate program in Public Policy with Georgia Institute of Technology via his Econ 8100 course, grading comprehensive exams, and periodically met with Dr. Gregory Lewis and other administrators of the program.
