at the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies

James Aberson

assisted the Georgia Department of Labor, Vocational Rehabilitation Program with conducting web-based surveys to assess the needs of individuals with disabilities seeking employment throughout the state.

assisted the North Carolina Division of Vocational Rehabilitation with conducting a web-based survey of the training and development needs of Division personnel following a statewide strategic change initiative.

attended the 2006 National Consortium of Rehabilitation Continuing Education Programs Training Conference, San Antonio, Texas, January 11-13, 2006.

Reola DeRico

attended an intensive certification training for Investment Volunteer with United Way and became a certified Investment Volunteer with United Way in the areas of Children (0-5), Low Income, and Housing. She earned certification to evaluate programs and participate in funding recommendations and participated on numerous site visits to evaluate grantees for funding decisions proposed to United Way.

was selected as a Judge in a patient and non-patient event for Georgia Regional Hospital which made awards in three categories for GRH's on- and off-campus facilities.

participated as partner in the Sickness Prevention Achieved through Regional Collaboration, sponsored by the Fulton County Office of Aging, whose objective is sickness prevention and health awareness for seniors.

participated in Medicare Prescription Drug Benefit Part D Intensive Training, DHHS, at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

Chip Kenney

presented at the 2006 Coca-Cola Student Leadership Conference hosted at Georgia State University, Atlanta, Ga., October 14, 2006.

presented at the ServiceSource Conference, Sarasota, Fla., June 19-21, 2006.

conducted a Kick-Off session for the Values-Driven Management initiative of the Tennessee Division of Rehabilitation Services, December 2006. Additional training and technical assistance will be conducted in 2007.

facilitated the efforts of the Georgia Department of Labor, Vocational Rehabilitation Program to strengthen relationships with non-profit vendors throughout the state. Activities included quarterly task force meetings and bi-annual sate leadership forums in Macon.

developed a series of training modules designed for AbilityWorks, a network of employment training centers affiliated with the Mississippi Department of Rehabilitation Services. The modules oriented new staff to the basic tenets of disability and employment policy. He also conducted an evaluation of the effectiveness of the training material in achieving the state agency’s desired outcomes.

hosted the eighth annual Community Rehabilitation Leadership Development Program, attended by 15 individuals representing five states attended. The Program targeted non-profit organization and state agency employees throughout the southeast. Participants received group instruction and individualized executive coaching.

conducted project management training for the South Carolina Vocational Rehabilitation Department.

assisted with planning and coordination of the annual employment services conference for the Florida Association of Rehabilitation Facilities, which targeted personnel from state agencies and non-profit organizations providing employment services throughout the state of Florida.

Bonnie Naugle

compiled, edited and coordinated the publication of the 2006 edition of the AYSPS Annual Report.

attended a week-long training session in JavaScript and CSS held at Antioch College, Keene, N.H., July 2006.

revitalized the AYSPS Alumni Club, which now holds monthly meetings. She also served as Secretary and Liaison to AYSPS for the club.

Gardner Neely

participated in Nonprofit Studies brownbag seminars.

coordinated the Nonprofit Studies section of the Research Support website for library resources.

audited classes with Dennis Young nonprofit studies and with Eric Twombly on nonprofit leadership.

attended the 7th Annual meeting of the Social Enterprise Alliance, Atlanta, Ga., March 2006.

led orientation for summer interns and new economics students on the library and databases.

assisted visiting scholars from Ukraine, Spain, Switzerland, and Pakistan with library orientation and local information.

participated as member of choir of the Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church.

served as Member of the Special Libraries Association.

served as Member and past officer of the Metro Atlanta Library Association.

served as Member of the transportation planning committee, City of Decatur, Ga.

served on the neighborhood watch of a Decatur neighborhood association.

Charlotte M. Petrek

served as AYSPS Representative on the Human Resources Advisory Council, as the AYSPS Representative on the SACS Accreditation Team, as the AYSPS Representative on the College Data Mart Review Committee, on the Georgia State Employee Grievance Procedure Committee, on the PeopleSoft Manage Faculty Events (MFE) Process Review Committee, on the Employee Handbook Process Review Committee, and on the PeopleAdmin Review, Development, and Implementation Team.

participated in several professional workshops, included Title IX Guidelines Seminar/Workshop; Mediating Campus Disputes Seminar/Workshop (Summer Institute on Conflict Management in Higher Education); Office of Federal Contract Compliance; and Bias Incident Reporting Process Workshop.

Mila Rossi

helped compile and edit the 2006 Annual Report.

David Sandt

participated in several search committees for university director positions during the calendar year.

completed a one-year term as the AYSPS staff representative to the university Administrative and Support Unit Review (ASUR) Committee.

served as AYSPS representative on the university DS-2 Core Team with Huron Consultants to develop cost allocation and cost allowability standards for the university’s first Disclosure Statement.

served as member of the Management and Administrative Training Advisory Committee (MATAC) organized to develop the core subjects for university-wide management and staff training for new employees.

initiated a new policy recommendation that would allow university residual funds to be used to purchase food for academic and scholarly events. The University approved the concept and adopted the policy recommendation university-wide.

Lisa Shephard

was quoted in the Atlanta Daily Business News regarding her participation in the Black Public Relations Society of Atlanta’s annual public relations summit.

completed the nine-month training in the Leadership Academy of Women at Georgia State University.

was selected to serve on the Leadership Academy of Women sub-committee for 2006-2007.

was selected to serve on the Board of Review by the Office of Employee Relations.

Sally Siewert

attended the Council of State Administrators of Vocational Rehabilitation (CSAVR) Spring Conference, Bethesda, Md., April 23-25, 2006.

attended the 2006 National Consortium of Rehabilitation Continuing Education Programs Training Conference, San Antonio, Texas, January 11-13, 2006.

provided technical assistance to the Kentucky Office of Vocational Rehabilitation, to design and implement statewide leadership succession plans.

provided technical assistance to the Tennessee Division of Rehabilitation Services Leadership Team in support of their organizational change efforts.

served as Member of the Community Council for Gwinnett County, Gwinnett County Seniors and Law Enforcement Together, Gwinnett Council for Seniors, Gwinnett Senior Golden Olympics and Gwinnett Provider Network.

Dorie Taylor

was selected as a member of the search committee for the new Andrew Young School Dean.

attended the National Regional National Council of University Administrators meeting held annually in November.

Akilah Thomas

presented on “Early Childhood Cognitive Development and Family Formation” at the African American Healthy Marriage Initiative Research Conference, Chapel Hill, N.C., September 12-14, 2006.

Tom Wade
