Public Policies and Child Well-Being
Anything that impacts America’s children is important to the well-being of society in general, both now and in the future. Child Policy is a workforce issue, an economic issue, a community issue and a moral issue. We all have vested interests in seeing to it that our society produces healthy, well-educated adults capable of handling the types of jobs our world economy is producing, and we must find a way for all of our children to at least have the chance to be successful in life.
Many scholars and academicians are individually or collectively working to explore and understand the complex issues and policies that contribute to child well-being, yet much of the valuable research being done is created in isolation. This Child Policy Conference seeks to bring together some of the brightest minds in research today, so that innovative ideas for child policy can be shared and collaborations can be sparked.
In its effort to develop a focus in child policy research, The Andrew Young School of Policy Studies at Georgia State University is providing a timely and intimate setting where the future agenda of research on children's issues can be discussed. Each of the highly-qualified presenters or presenter teams in this conference brings unique expertise to the table. Each has shown their commitment to their particular field of research and each has met or exceeded standards for academic excellence. These carefully selected participants share a commitment to some aspect of child policy or child well-being.
During the two-day discussion at Stone Mountain Park near Atlanta, we hope participants will carefully consider the question “What is the Future of Child Policy?” and that they will leave knowing that they are an integral part of a dynamic future for child policy in America. It is our fervent hope that each will go away with more than what they brought with them -- a renewed commitment to collaboratively work to influence child policy in America, so that our children have the best chance for success in a world economy.
The Child Policy Initiative at the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies is made possible by the generous support of the UPS Foundation.
The Andrew Young School of Policy Studies, located in downtown Atlanta and established in 1996, at Georgia State University is ranked by U.S. News & World Report as one of the top public policy schools in the nation.
