ATLANTA - Dr. Rukmalie Jayakody, associate professor of human
development, family studies, and demography at Penn State University,
will present "Marriage After Welfare Reform," the final
lecture in this spring's Child Policy Speaker Series. The series is sponsored
by the Child Policy Initiative.
Dr. Jayakody, who also serves as a research
associate at the Population Research Institute, has conducted extensive
studies on how the much-debated national welfare reform bill has changed
- or not changed - the dynamics of marriage among low-income couple.
Is marriage really a way to escape from government support? Has domestic
violence increased since welfare reform?
The program is scheduled for Monday,
April 26, 2004, at 2:30
p.m. at 012 Aderhold Learning Center, located at 60 Luckie Street in downtown Atlanta.
Located in the Georgia Health Policy Center of the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies, the Child Policy Initiative
works to improve the quality of child policy in Georgia through the skillful application of current research
and analysis.
