Native Atlantan R. Charles Loudermilk, Sr. is an active leader in civic and community affairs. He is the founder and past chairman of the Buckhead Coalition dedicated to orderly growth of the Buckhead community, as well as chairman of the Buckhead Community Bank, which has offices in Buckhead, Sandy Springs, Johns Creek, Alpharetta and Midtown.

He is former co-chairman of the Atlanta Action Forum, former board member and member of the downtown Atlanta Rotary Club, since 1957. He served on the Board of Directors of the Corporation for Olympic Development and of the Executive Committee of the Atlanta Convention and Visitors Bureau board of directors. He is a former member of the Board of the Lovett School in Atlanta and has served on the Piedmont Hospital Foundation Board, the Atlanta Community Food Bank, and the Archbold Hospital Foundation in Thomasville, Georgia. He was a member of the Omni Group that built the Omni and owned the Atlanta Flames and the Atlanta Hawks.

A leader in working for good government, Charlie Loudermilk served as co-chairman of Andrew Young's Atlanta mayoral campaign in 1981 and again in 1985. He served on the MARTA Board of Directors for four years and was Chairman for two of those years.

A pioneer and leader in the rental industry, Charlie Loudermilk is chairman and chief executive officer of Aaron Rents, Inc., which he started in 1955 in Atlanta with a $500 loan, first renting Army surplus folding chairs at a dime a day for auctions and other events, later adding awide variety of rental merchandise. In 1965 the company expanded into residential and office furniture and in 1992 launched a highly successful franchising program.

In November 1982, Loudermilk took Aaron public, and today the company is the leader in rental, sales and lease ownership and specialty retailing of residential and office furniture, consumer electronics and home appliances. The company has more than 1250 stores in 47 states and Canada.
