The Honorable Mayor Shirley Franklin will be the guest speaker at the PAUS Spring Leadership Series event for 2007. The topic of discussion will be "Policy Leadership: Making Things Happen." This exciting event is open to all.
In 2001, Shirley Franklin became the first female mayor of Atlanta, Georgia, and the first African American woman to serve as mayor of a major southern city. Mayor Franklin has been featured in high profile publications such as the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, Fortune Magazine, Ebony Magazine, and Black Enterprise, as well as countless other local and national publications. In 2004, she was named Governing Magazine’s “Public Official of the Year” and was honored by Time Magazine as one of the country’s top five mayors in 2005. More recently she was a recipient of the 2006 Southern Institute for Business and Professional Ethics’ Advocate Award. Currently ranked among the world’s top ten mayors, Mayor Franklin was also honored among “America’s Best Leaders” by the U.S. News and World Report and the Center for Public Leadership at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government.
