2009 Academic Conference on Government Programs, Distribution, and Equity

The Fiscal Research Center and the International Studies Program will host a conference on Government Programs, Distribution & Equity. This academic conference will explore the link between government programs, policy and the resulting effects on distribution and equity. You will have an opportunity to gain in-depth information through four sessions addressing; Fiscal Redistribution in the United States, International Fiscal Redistribution, Urban Programs and Social Issues. - Howard Chernick of Hunter College will present "Redistribution at the State and Local Level: Consequences for Economic Growth"
- Thomas Hungerford of the Congressional Research Service will present "The Redistributive Effect of Selected Federal Transfer and Tax Provisions"
- Andreas Peichl of IZA-Bonn will present "The Redistributive Effects of Tax Benefit Systems in the Enlarged EU" (co-authors are Clemens Fuest of Oxford University, Judith Niehues of University of Cologne)
- Klara Peter of Georgia State University will present "Tax Progressivity and Income Inequality" (co-author is Denvil Duncan)
- Tara Watson of Williams College will present "Local Fiscal Policies and Urban Wage Structures" (co-authors are Patricia Beeson of University of Pittsburgh, Lara Shore-Sheppard)
- Dagney Faulk of Ball State University will present "Bus Transit in Small Cities: Economic Development Strategy and/or Social Service?" (co-author is Michael Hicks)
- John Bishop of East Carolina University, John Formby and Hoseong Kim of University of Alabama will present "The Redistributive Effects and Cost Effectiveness of Increasing the Federal Minimum Wage"
- Tami Gurley-Calvez and Amy Higginbotham of University of West Virginia will present "Academic Achievement: Does More Spending Ease the Effects of Poor Health?"
