Georgia's Youth: Overweight and Under-Active
A statewide assessmen of the physical fitness and physical activity levels of Georgia's 5th and 7th graders.

The Georgia Youth Fitness Assessment (GYFA) studies fitness and physical activity in our youth, as part of an effort to identify ways to reverse the trends in childhood obesity and sedentary behavior in Georgia. The GYFA gives participating students and their parents feedback on an individual child’s health, while also providing school officials and policymakers with an accurate picture of fitness levels among Georgia’s children and youth.

Framework for Community-Based Cancer Prevention and ControlThis document outlines a framework for designing a community-based cancer prevention program, offers tips for how to best use it, and suggests additional information and resources for communities that wish to tailor it to their own unique needs and priorities.

Improving Rural Health: How Healthy are Rural Georgians?  An examination by the Philanthropic Collaborative for a Healthy Georgia on the health status of rural Georgians. The fact that Georgians living in rural areas are not as healthy as those living in urban areas is a major source of concern as is the fact that no county in Georgia has an “excellent” health status.

Philanthropic Symposium on School Health
A highlight of presentations and discussions during the Philanthropic Symposium on School Health held October 16, 2000 in Atlanta, Ga. The Symposium was designed to provide members with background information about school health. Participants were also introduced to a newly initiated matching grants program.

Public/Private Partnerships in Community Efforts to Improve School Health
The focus of this research is to determine the effectiveness of public/private partnerships in expanding access to care for low income and medically underserved school-aged children, and to identify best practices and lessons learned in 13 Georgia communities.
