Heather joined the Georgia Health Policy Center as a Research Associate in July 2008. Prior to that, she led program evaluation and systems thinking efforts for the Minnesota Department of Health’s diabetes program. In her role, Heather designed an evaluation for the diabetes statewide strategic plan and led Minnesota’s participation in the System Dynamics Modeling Focus Area of the CDC’s Diabetes Primary Prevention Initiative. She also helped prepare policy pieces to inform state level decisions that included restoring cuts to MinnesotaCare coverage for diabetes and allocating new funding for statewide community-based health promotion as a part of recent health reform legislation. Heather brings over nine years of state level public health experience; strong skills in writing, multi-disciplinary collaboration and qualitative and quantitative data analysis; and training and experience in SAS, SPSS, MapInfo, Vensim and Atlas/ti. She earned her Master of Arts in Anthropology from the University of Kansas.
