Dr. Jorge Martinez Awarded an Honorary Doctorate by the University of Vigo, Spain

Regents Professor Jorge Martínez Vázquez, director of the International Studies Program, was awarded the Doctoral Honoris Causa degree, an honorary doctorate, from the University of Vigo. He traveled to Vigo, Galicia, Spain, to receive the award at a special ceremony held by the university’s Department of Applied Economics on January 31.

The University of Vigo recognized Martinez for his extensive body of work and research excellence in fiscal decentralization, taxation and tax management. As noted in the university’s award announcement, he is an expert consultant to federal and local governments in the United States and more than thirty countries and to institutions like the World Bank, United Nations and International Monetary Fund.
