The Nonprofit Studies Program is pleased to announce the upcoming UPS Lecture on Nonprofit Leadership, Governance and Economic Stewardship. This event will take place on Thursday, October 25, 2007, from 3:00 to 4:30 pm, on the 7th floor of the AYSPS Building, 14 Marietta Street, NW, in Atlanta. The lecture will be on "How Nonprofit Boards Really Work: Findings from the First National Representative Study."
Graduate students are invited to join Dr. Ostrower for Coffee and Conversation at 10:30am in the 3rd Floor reception area; coffee and pastries will be provided.
Our distinguished speaker will be Francie Ostrower, Senior Research Associate at the Urban Institute's Center on Nonprofits and Philanthropy. Dr. Ostrower has just completed a study of nonprofit governance in the United States that included surveying over 5,100 participants. She will discuss her findings, including relationships between public policy and governance, factors that promote or impede boards' performance of basic stewardship responsibilities, board composition and factors associated with board diversity, and recruitment processes, including the difficulty experienced by many nonprofits in finding members.
This lecture is sponsored by a generous grant from the UPS Foundation. The event is open to the public, and is especially targeted for nonprofit community leaders. If you have any questions about the lecture, or would like additional details, please e-mail nonprofitstudiesprogram@gsu.edu.
