The Seventh Annual Nonprofit Executive Roundtable was held Friday, April 27, 2007, from 8am-noon at the Andrew Young School on the Georgia State University campus. Community nonprofit leaders and scholars met over breakfast for a morning of presentations and discussion on issues that affect both nonprofit organizations and their leadership. Photos of the event.
Keynote Speaker
The Nonprofit Studies Program at the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies was pleased to welcome Paul C. Light as Keynote Speaker for the 2007 Nonprofit Executive Breakfast and Roundtable. Professor Light discussed the future of nonprofit leadership including challenges related to the number of baby boomers expected to retire over the next decade, the lack of internal resources to develop leaders, and sector growth. In Sustaining Nonprofit Performance, Professor Light reports, “As a generation of nonprofit executives and board members approaches retirement, it becomes increasingly important to ensure that their organizations are prepared to continue their missions – that they are built to last in a supremely challenging environment.”
Paul C. Light is Paulette Goddard Professor of Public Service at New York University’s Wagner School of Public Service and founding principal investigator of the Organizational Performance Initiative. Before joining NYU, he was vice president and director of governmental studies at the Brookings Institution and founding director of its Center for Public Service. He was also senior adviser to the U.S. Senate Governmental Affairs Committee, and director of the pubic policy grant program at the Pew Charitable Trusts. Professor Light is a well-known public speaker on organizational life; his is a familiar voice on NPR’s “Morning Edition.”
Professor Light has published extensively on nonprofit performance and organizational excellence. He is the author of 20 books and numerous articles, including Sustaining Nonprofit Performance: The Case for Capacity Building and the Evidence to Support It,” Pathways to Nonprofit Excellence, Making Nonprofits Work: A Report on the Tides of Nonprofit Management Reform, “The Spiral of Nonprofit Development,” “Presidential Calls for Volunteerism,” and “The Content of Their Character: The State of the Nonprofit Workforce.
