ELPNO 2009
The Nonprofit Studies Program held its third annual Executive Leadership Program for Nonprofit Organizations (ELPNO) training session June 21-26, 2009 at the Emory Conference Center Hotel. The program focuses on strategic thinking, finance and resource development, governance and leadership. Thirteen nonprofit executives from the state of Georgia, from Maryland, and from the Republic of Georgia attended. Generous underwriting was provided by The UPS Foundation, and additional scholarships were granted by The Community Foundation, Calvin Edwards & Company, Coxe Curry & Associates, and Alston + Bird.
Participating AYSPS faculty included Harvey Newman (PMAP), Mike Mescon (AYS Advisory Board member and dean emeritus of the Robinson College of Business), Deon Locklin (PPM), John O'Kane (SVP, Coxe Curry, and PMAP part-time instructor), and Dennis Young, (PMAP, Director, NSP). Other faculty included Edward Queen (Emory University), Peter Topping (Emory University), Virginia Hodgkinson (Georgetown University), Janet Greenlee (University of Dayton), Janet Rechtman (UGA) and John Bryson (University of Minnesota). Roxanne Spillett, CEO of Boys and Girls Clubs of America, was the keynote speaker the first night of the program. Other dinner presentations included Brad Branch (Deloitte), and Trinita Logue (Illinois Facilities Finance Fund). Sam Pettway (Boardwalk Consulting) led a luncheon panel on governance featuring Joe Arnold (Sun Trust), Ann Cramer (IBM Foundation) and Sheffield Hale (American Cancer Society).
