EXECUTIVE LEADERSHIP PROGRAM FOR NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS (ELPNO)

WHAT IS ELPNO?

ELPNO  is a professional development program for upcoming executives and leaders in the nonprofit sector. It offers an engaging format that provides opportunities for peers to translate theory into practice and concepts into strategies that are relevant, immediately practical, and useable in their work. ELPNO is a dynamic partnership of three leading institutions:  The Nonprofit Studies Program in the Andrew Young School for Policy Studies at Georgia State University, the Georgia Center for Nonprofits and the Center for Ethics at Emory University. This collaboration provides cutting edge content that offers insight and guidance as leaders explore proactive methods for improving the effectiveness of their organizations and their individual impact on that work.

WHO IS IT FOR?

ELPNO is intended for current or aspiring nonprofit CEOs.  You might be an emerging or senior leader in a complex nonprofit organization, or the executive director of a smaller to mid-sized organization.  You have likely demonstrated competence and a proven track record in your work, but would like to add some breath or depth to your skill base.  You are undoubtedly someone who is highly motivated and passionate about a career in the nonprofit sector and in serving the community and society.

HOW IS THE WEEK STRUCTURED ?

Each of the five program days focuses on a different theme. Themes include strategic leadership, tactical leadership, resource development and management, systems thinking and governance. The various days offer workshop sessions, luncheon presentations, panel discussions, and dinner programs.

WHO ARE THE ELPNO FACULTY?

The ELPNO faculty team includes national scholars, as well as nationally recognized local professors from Emory and the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies at Georgia State University.  It also includes leading practitioners heading national and local nonprofits.  Many of the same faculty participate year to year.

WHAT DOES IT COST?

The program fee for 2009 was $3,000.  This included all program expenses and food and lodging  at the Emory Conference Center from Sunday night through Friday lunch, except for Thursday night dinner. Many organizations sponsor their own employees, covering costs of the program in part or in whole.  Additional scholarship funds are also available.  The ELPNO Admissions Committee, based on participant descriptions of needs and/or an assessment of merit, awards the scholarships.  Application for scholarship consideration is provided on the general application form.

WHEN IS THE DEADLINE TO APPLY?

The application deadline is generally around May 1st.
