PMAP Jobs & Internship Listserv

A listserv is an Email mailing list. You must have an Email account to participate. This list is intended for students looking for a job or an internship.  It will be used to distribute information about job and internship opportunities.  It can also be used for Email discussions of job and internship search strategies. Feel free to submit questions or comments to this list at any time.  Always remember that this list is provided for students and alumni of the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies.  

 

You can expect to receive 10 to 15 Email messages from this list each week.  It is also possible to get your messages as a weekly digest or to read mail on the Web.  You can designate how you would like to receive mail on the list Web site.

 

New students frequently like to read over the messages that were posted to the list before they became a member.  This can also be done at the list Web Site. 


Getting Started

Send an e-mail message to: JIPAUS-subscribe@topica.com

 

You do not need to provide any other information to be subscribed to the list.  Your subscription gets you a copy of all available job and internship information.

 

Using the List

All subscribers can send mail to the list.  The subscribers include a wide variety of undergraduate and graduate students with different levels of work experience.  There are also some alumni on this list.  Perhaps you have a problem or question that the subscribers could help you with?  Also, you may hear of an opportunity that might be of interest to other students.  You can submit an Email to the list by sending it to this address: JIPAUS@topica.com

 

Archives and Reading Emails on the Web

The jobs and internship mailing list also has a home page on the Web.  You can change your settings at the Web site, read or send mail, and access the list archives.  The archives contain hundreds of previous postings.  This is the address: http://www.topica.com/lists/JIPAUS.  Please note that the “Topica” website is free software, so there will be advertising screens that you will need to click through first in order to access the homepage – our apologies for having to experience this one hurdle when logging on for the first time.

 

Stopping Mail

Send an e-mail message to: JIPAUS-unsubscribe@topica.com

This is all it takes to leave the list.

 

It is also possible to suspend mail for shorter periods of time, such as a vacation.  This can be done on the list Web site.

 

Common Problems

There are two possible problems that you should know about.  First of all, you should never send personal correspondence to the list.  This can happen easily if you are careless in replying to an individual who has posted mail to the list.  Second, you cannot set up your Email software to send out automatic messages, say when you are on vacation, once you subscribe to an automated mailing list.  These automated responses can create thousands of Email messages--all going to everyone on the mailing list.  The list sends a message to you, your Email software sends a message to the list, the list sends your automated message to the subscribers (including you), your software replies again, etc.
