The Department of Public Management and Policy is housed within the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies and known nationally for its research and teaching excellence. Its faculty consistently is ranked among the top programs nationally in terms of scholarly publications and applied research products. Its alumni hold responsible positions on all levels of government in the United States, in many nonprofit agencies, and in the private sector. Students come from all over the United States and from other nations throughout the world.
The department offers degree programs designed to prepare students for professional, managerial, and leadership positions and careers in a wide variety of public, nonprofit, and private agencies. Faculty engage in scholarly and applied research across a broad front of policy areas that includes transportation and aviation, education, health policy, emergency and disaster policy and management, planning and economic development, and human resources.
As a unit of the Andrew Young School, the department is committed to community service with the goal of improving government, society, and quality of life in the Atlanta area, the Southeast region, and throughout the United States and other countries. The department is now located in the new Andrew Young School building which offers excellent facilities for students, faculty, and guests.
The department currently accepts students in several programs:
- Bachelor of Science in Public Policy (BS-PUP)
- Master of Public Administration (MPA) and MPA-JD
- Master of Public Policy (MPP)
- Graduate Certificates
- PhD in Public Policy
Within each of these degree programs, students are able to gain additional expertise by pursuing one or more of a number of specializations or career tracks. The department also supports and enables student internships with public, nonprofit, and private agencies.
