Jan Ligon

Associate Professor and BSW Program Director

Ph.D., University of Georgia

Ligon’s principal interests are mental health and substance abuse services in the public sector. Following his experience as a social worker in the state’s mental health system, he continues to emphasize the importance of improving these services through his teaching, training, service, and publishing. He has spoken at the local, national, and international levels about the effects of substance abuse on families and children, a significant issue that has received minimal attention to date. He has also been interviewed and appeared in media outlets, such as CNN, on the topic. Ligon currently serves as co-evaluator for a federal Safe Schools Health Students grant with the Cobb County School District. As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, he has served on the state’s social work licensure board, and is currently a member of Georgia’s Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities Board.
