Second Century Initiative Recruiting
The Andrew Young School of Policy Studies is recruiting for four positions in conjunction with a broader University endeavor, the Second Century Initiative (2CI), which will add at least 100 new faculty members to Georgia State University between 2010 and 2015. The primary goal of the initiative is to build nationally recognized scholarly strength and critical mass around common research themes in order to enhance Georgia State University's overall excellence, interdisciplinary richness, and competitiveness.

Economics or Public Policy, with research interests in health information technology, Full or Associate Professor

This position is the result of a Second Century Proposal submitted by Georgia State’s Robinson College of Business, in conjunction with the Andrew Young School’s Georgia Health Policy Center, that focuses on candidates whose research involves health information technology (policy, privacy, security, innovation, implementation, etc.).

This position is the result of a Second Century Proposal submitted by Georgia State’s Robinson College of Business, in conjunction with the Andrew Young School’s Georgia Health Policy Center, that focuses on candidates whose research involves health information technology (policy, privacy, security, innovation, implementation, etc.).

Policy-Focused Criminal Justice/Criminology Research, Full or Associate Professor

This position is part of a 3-person cluster hire associated with the Andrew Young School’s Second Century Proposal that seeks faculty in an effort to build an internationally recognized Workshop in Evidence-based Policy. The Workshop will act as a hub of energy and activity, including high-profile colloquia and lecture series, and will serve as an institutional umbrella for research working groups and visiting faculty and graduate students. This position focuses on candidates whose research involves experimental designs or rigorous quantitative methods to advance crime and justice related policy and practice.

Urban Economics, Full or Associate Professor

This position is one of four positions associated with the Andrew Young School’s Second Century Proposal that seeks to build existing strengths across the university in urban policy and land use law. The other three positions will be housed in the Andrew Young School’s Department of Public Management and Policy (PMAP), The GSU College of Law, and the Department of Sociology. These hires will directly advance the university’s strategic cities initiative, building momentum behind GSU's proposed Council for the Progress of Cities and advancing the university’s goal of global distinction, while simultaneously building on and tying together the existing infrastructure of the Center for the Comparative Study of Metropolitan Growth, Fiscal Research Center, and the Center for Neighborhood and Metropolitan Studies.

The ideal candidate for this economics position will have an interest in field research with applications in poverty alleviation, health economics, labor economics, law and economics, or crime. This position is funded as one component of the Second Century proposal entitled “Portfolios of the Atlanta Poor” submitted by the http://www.rmi.gsu.edu/http://www.rmi.gsu.edu/ of the Robinson College of Business, in conjunction with the Department of Economics of the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies. The overall project is being led by the Center for the Economic Analysis of Risk. Two additional faculty positions in the Risk Management and Insurance Department will complement the planned Economics Department hire (contact Glenn Harrison at gharrison@gsu.edu for information about those positions).
