About the Program
The mission of the Urban Studies Institute is to generate a better understanding and management of the complex challenges facing cities and urbanizing regions. We promote the creation of more productive, livable, inclusive, and sustainable cities as a key challenge of the 21st century concentrating on economic resilience, inclusive development and environmental sustainability.
The MIS in Urban Studies prepares students for professional or academic careers with specialized knowledge. The program is based mainly in the social sciences and is oriented towards translation or policy-relevant research.
Learning Objectives
1. Core knowledge in Urban Studies: identify & interpret current and emerging urban issues, opportunities, and challenges in the U.S. and globally;
2. Methodological competencies: mastering skills to collect and asses data necessary to analyze urban phenomenon (e.g. GIS, modelling, ethnography);
3. Research Skills: ability to conduct translational research with strong policy relevance.
