Research Opportunities
The Department of Economics at the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies at Georgia State University provides excellent opportunities for economic research. The department offers graduate research assistantships to a number of incoming graduate students and most Ph D students. These positions allow students to work directly with faculty members on their research. However, this is just the starting point for research at the Andrew Young School.
Departmental Research Programs
The department offers two programs that allow undergraduates and graduates alike to participate in research:
Research Internship
The semester research internships allows the development of students’ analytical thinking capabilities in the application of theories and concepts to social problems. A research paper is required at the end of the semester, of which process enhances students’ literacy skills and understanding of the scientific methods throughout research requirements and in-depth case studies.
Research Centers
In addition to these programs, the school has a number of internationally recognized research centers, including:
Experimental Economics Lab (EXCEN)
ExCEN, the EXperimental Economics CENter, was founded in 2006 to support research, teaching, and policy applications involving controlled experiments with human decision makers. Professor James C. Cox is the founding director of the Center. The Center’s central objective is to promote the development and application of economics and related academic disciplines as empirical social science. Ongoing research in the Center involves development of economic theory supported by data.
Georgia Health Policy Center (GHPC)
The Georgia Health Policy Center (GHPC), housed within Georgia State University’s Andrew Young School of Policy Studies, provides evidence-based research, program development, and policy guidance.
