Victoria Helmly is a Ph.D. student of Criminal Justice and Criminology at Georgia State University. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Georgia State University in 2013. She also received her Master of Social Work with a graduate certificate in Gerontology from Georgia State University in 2016. She worked as the Alzheimer’s & Related Dementias State Plan Coordinator for Georgia Department of Human Services Division of Aging Services from 2016-2019. Her research interests include aging in the prison system and policies for incarcerated older adults. Specifically, she is interested in the grief experience, dementia, and death and dying within prison.
