Marolyn Lucy Gentles
Business Manager III Experimental Economics Center- Biography
Marolyn Lucy Gentles, is the Business Manager (II) for the Experimental Economic Center within the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies. Lucy, as she is mostly referred to, manages the pre and post award portfolio of all sponsored projects and the general administration of faculty and graduate research assistants in the center. Lucy began working for the school in 2014 after moving to Georgia from New York City.
Lucy manages the administration of the ExCEN lab, the faculty and GRAs who all work to achieve the research goals of the center. The Center’s central objective is to promote the development and application of economics and related academic disciplines as empirical social science. Ongoing research in the Center involves development of economic theory supported by data. Lucy, oversees this mission by ensuring the center receives research funding. She is charged with ensuring administrative and financial compliance in accordance with the OMB Uniform Guidance that underpins all federal and state funded research. She ensures that the university’s internal controls, which are the core of good stewardship of sponsored funds, are adhered to. Lucy also coordinates all other activities of the center which include but not limited to events planning, social media platforms and wellbeing of the center.
Lucy has represented the college as a university staff senator and an executive on the Georgia State and University System of Georgia staff councils. She is a member of the National Council of University Research Administrators where she has presented at NCURA’s annual conferences.
Prior to joining the Andrew Young School, Gentles was a research assistant at the School of Public Affairs at Baruch. Gentles has held positions in environmental non-profits and government agencies in Jamaica. Her core experiences come from being a veteran geography educator in Jamaica and the Caribbean. She is also the co-author of two Geography Textbooks for the Caribbean Examination Council.
Lucy holds a First Class honors Bachelor’s degree in Geography Education from the University of the West Indies and a Master’s in Public Administration (MPA) from City University of New York, Baruch College. She also pursued a Master’s in Education at the University of the West Indies. Gentles is a Certified Research Administrator (CRA). The Certified Research Administrator is a designation granted in the United States by the Research Administrators Certification Council to individuals who demonstrate the knowledge necessary to serve as an administrator of professional and sponsored research programs. She is also an inducted member of Pi Alpha Alpha, the Global Honor Society for Public Affairs and Administration.
Lucy enjoys photography and is a published landscape photographer. She enjoys public service and travel. Both interests have contributed to the service she gives to Georgia State University and the wider community
