Welcome from the Dean
Welcome to the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies
Located in Atlanta, we are one of the top 20 policy schools in the United States. Our faculty ranks among the best in the nation for teaching and research in important areas of policy. We take an innovative, flexible and entrepreneurial attitude toward learning and research, providing our students a tremendous number of rewarding opportunities.
Our graduate and undergraduate degree programs offer several options for students who want to learn how good public policy can impact the places and spaces where we live and work. As a student here, you will find a strong academic foundation with the tools and support you need to complete your major. Depending on your field of study, research and internship opportunities will round out your educational experience and provide a solid stepping stone to a successful career in the public, private or nonprofit sector.
Our College is comprised of five academic units — economics, criminal justice & criminology, public management & policy, social work and urban studies — and several research centers. Our approach is naturally multidisciplinary, and we have strong partnerships with other colleges at Georgia State, public, private and nonprofit organizations and alumni. Our research programs are also often interdisciplinary, with clear avenues for collaboration and cooperation in a multitude of fields.
Evidence-based policy helps the public and private sectors do many things. It helps economies grow, identifies the best ways to pay for infrastructure, education and healthcare and improves lives. Our faculty, staff — and often, graduate students — bring research to policy development throughout the U.S. and the world.
We thank you for your interest in the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies and look forward to welcoming you in person.
Cordially,
Ann-Margaret Esnard
Interim Dean
